CAN BRAZILS WORLD CUP TRIGGER POSITIVE CHANGE?
Brazil’s hosting ability for the World Cup has heightened the awareness of the political, social, and economic instability of the country.
Change usually happens when something goes wrong – and in this case—Brazil’s inability and inexperience in hosting a major event has erupted chaos.
Could developing countries that have less democratic governments benefit from hosting global events such as the World Cup or the Olympics? Brazil is experiencing an awakening to reality, one which may cause distress amongst citizens at first; however, this may be a blessing for it’s future. Perhaps FIFA should continue allowing developing countries to host the World Cup with the intention that the games will trigger positive political and social change in the long-run.
